SPIRIT FILLED WORK
Text: Ephesians 6:5-9
-
Work with Sincerity - Because You’re Ultimately Serving Christ
Eph 6:5 “Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as you would Christ.”
- Paul tells workers to serve their earthly bosses as if they were serving Jesus Himself.
- “With fear and trembling” doesn’t mean terror, but respect and seriousness.
- “Sincerity of heart” means being genuine—not fake, not just trying to impress.
-
Work From a Pure Heart - Because Your Motivation Matters
Eph 6:6-7 “Don’t work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing God’s will from your heart. Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people…”
- Don’t just work hard when people are watching—work with consistency and character.
- Why? Because your job is a place to live out God’s will.
- “Serve with a good attitude”—that’s not always easy, but it’s powerful when we do.
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.”
2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.”
2 Corinthians 5:10
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”
-
Work Knowing God Rewards Faithfulness
Eph 6:8 “...knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord.”
- God doesn’t overlook faithfulness.
- God invites you to work for a Kingdom reward.
Matthew 5:10–12
“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. “You are blessed when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Luke 6:35
“But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High. For he is gracious to the ungrateful and evil.”
-
Lead in Your Work with Respect and Love - Because You Answer to the Same Master
Eph 6:9
“And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with Him.”
- Respect views everyone as equals. Paul flips the script—employers (leaders) are held to the same standard.
1 Corinthians 12:13
“For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all given one Spirit to drink.”
Galatians 3:28
“There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female; since you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 3:11
“In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.”
- Never use your position of a leader for personal gain.
Matthew 20:25–26
“Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions act as tyrants over them. It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,”
- God is using Christian employers to show love to his people.
Let’s all Work unto the lord together.
